Laser Dentistry for Kids
Using a special laser designed just for dentistry enables Dr. Bristol-Mártir to offer soft and hard tissue treatment without the need for drills or scalpels. This laser is used to remove decayed tissue from your child’s tooth without the noise and vibration of a dentist’s drill. It can also be used for soft tissue surgery. For example, it can be used to perform a frenectomy, an oral surgery procedure, to correct your child’s tongue-tie.
Because correcting a cavity with a laser causes your child little to no discomfort, Dr. Bristol-Mártir can often avoid using anesthetics before this procedure.
There is very little trauma when a laser is used to remove the decayed part of your child’s tooth. When it is used to treat soft tissue, there is very often no need for sutures afterward. Because of this minimal trauma, it may be possible to provide your child with further treatment in multiple areas of the mouth, all in one visit.
Who Can Be Treated with a Laser?
Dr. Bristol-Mártir will determine if your child is a good candidate for laser dentistry by considering the following factors:
Please call the office to consult with the doctor or her staff on the suitability of this treatment for your child.
What Conditions Can Be Treated with Laser Dentistry?
Laser dentistry can address a variety of dental issues in children, including:
- Cavity Treatment: Lasers can precisely remove decayed tissue, making cavity treatment less invasive.
- Frenectomies: For children with tongue-tie or lip-tie, laser frenectomy offers a quick and minimally painful solution.
- Gingival Issues: Lasers can treat gingivitis and other gum related issues by reducing bacteria and promoting healthy tissue growth.
- Lesion Removal: Soft tissue lasers can be used to remove benign oral growths or lesions.
- Tooth Sensitivity: Lasers can seal tubules on the root of the tooth to reduce sensitivity.
