White Crowns for Kids in Vineland, NJ
For many years, it was customary to place stainless steel crowns on the baby teeth of children after those teeth suffered severe damage. At
South Jersey Pediatric Dental, we can preserve your child’s bright smile by placing a white crown on a damaged tooth instead.
When Are Crowns Needed for Primary Teeth?
Primary teeth crowns are required when your child’s tooth has suffered an impact injury or a pulpotomy (a less invasive procedure where the pulp that resides in the main part (or crown) of the tooth is taken out, but the roots are left in) has been done.
A blow to the tooth or a pulpotomy weakens the tooth. If your child bites into something hard, it’s possible for the tooth to break. To protect it until the permanent tooth comes in, a crown is placed over your child’s baby tooth.
White Crowns vs. Stainless Steel
A stainless steel crown is less expensive than a white zirconia crown and requires less of the enamel of a tooth to be removed before it is placed. But your child will have an unattractive silver crown in their mouth until a permanent tooth replaces the baby tooth. This can cause your child self-consciousness or embarrassment about smiling, laughing and talking.
For that reason, we now offer strong ceramic crowns to keep your child's smile aesthetic. Please
